  2. Isle of Man Post Office Commemorates the Centenary of the Manx Grand Prix

    Posted on

Isle of Man Post Office is proud to present this collection of eight stamps celebrating the centenary of the Manx Grand Prix (MGP). The collection, which will be issued on 15th May 2023, was created in collaboration with author David Wright and designer Tracey Dean.

The MGP, as it is now known, was originally a single race called the Amateur Motorcycle Championship aimed at amateur riders, as opposed to the mostly professional riders who competed in the Tourist Trophy (TT) races. A century later, on the same world-famous 37¾ mile Isle of Man Mountain Course, the race has become a well-anticipated event, crowning motorcycle legends such as Geoff Duke, Phil Read, Carl Fogarty, Steve Hislop, and Michael Dunlop.

John McBride, Chairman of Manx Motor Cycle Club said: “Commemorating the centenary of the Manx Grand Prix is important to honour the history and significance that the event has played in the Island’s road racing history, and the stamps, adorned with some of the event’s motorcyclists from across the decades do just that. It’s a year filled with celebration for the Manx Grand Prix and the Manx Motor Cycle Club is delighted that this unique collection will be available to fans as it allows them to hold on to their own piece of Manx Grand Prix history. In addition to the stamps, there are a number of other special events taking place to mark the centenary celebrations including the “Legends of the Manx Grand Prix” parade lap that pays tribute to some those who have graduated from the races since 1923. More current racers that will be involved include Mick Grant, Ian Lougher, and Phillip McCallen to mention but a few, and that, the stamps will pay homage to the last 100 years, and look forward to the next.”

Isle of Man Stamps and Coins General Manager, Maxine Cannon added:

“We are thrilled to be a part of marking an exciting period in the history of the Manx Grand Prix. To many people, including myself, the Manx Grand Prix is a must-see and memorable event. I'm looking forward to hearing the roaring sounds of the machines flying around Mountain course this year”

The set consists of four se-tenant pairs with the following values 80p, £1.28, £1.51 and £1.75. Within the collection is a Set, Sheet Set, Presentation Pack (limited to 1100), First Day Cover (limited to 1500), Prestige Booklet and a Booklet Pane.

  3. Garmin zumo XT2 with Touratech mount

    Posted on

With the zumo XT2, Garmin has now launched the successor model of the premium motorcycle navigator. Even more motorcycle-specific functions enable simplified route planning and provide an even wider range of useful extras when on the road. And, of course, Touratech already has a robust mount for this brand-new device that can cope with tough offroad use.

    Large and brilliant display

The Garmin zumo XT2 is the logical further development of the already very powerful XT predecessor model. The 6-inch touchscreen is 15 per cent larger and another five per cent brighter than the XT. This results in the screen being perfectly readable in all lighting conditions, while operation with gloves is even easier than before, due to the larger size.

    Planning tools specially for riders

Specially developed for riders, the zumo XT2 offers numerous features for planning inspiring tours. Garmin has pre-installed popular motorcycle routes on the device, and Michelin Scenic Roads are also colour-coded on the map.

The new "Adventurous Routing" function allows you to create winding, relaxed or scenic routes simply by using the slider. Attractive content such as the Michelin Green Guide, Trendy Places and Local Spots round off the range of planning tools.

The newly developed visual route planner enables you to conveniently create and edit routes directly in the map view.

Even more functions with the Tread App

Additional functions can be accessed by linking the zumo XT2 with a smartphone on which the Garmin Tread app is installed. This provides real-time services for traffic, weather or fuel prices. The XT2 can, of course, also output messages and phone calls to the headset.

In addition, the Tread app allows the use of all road navigation maps, topographic maps and satellite images in the route planner, and synchronises routes, tracks and waypoints via the cloud. The Track Recorder allows the recording of numerous vehicle and route data, and last but not least, the Group Ride Mobile function can be used to track the locations of group members.

    Equipped for inReach satellite communication

The zumo XT2 is equipped for Garmin inReach, making it exemplary in terms of safety. With this satellite-based two-way communication, holders of a corresponding subscription can send and receive messages as well as share position data and make emergency calls. And that with no mobile reception required.

Touratech handlebar mount for optimum protection

This handlebar mount in legendary Touratech quality encloses the Garmin zumo XT2, giving it a secure hold even in rough terrain. The laser-cut and CNC-bent aluminium and stainless steel parts offer maximum strength and precision, making accidental opening of the lockable mount impossible.

The zumo XT2 is also reliably supplied with power in the Touratech handlebar mount via the on-board network, through the integration of the Garmin motorcycle cradle.

The handlebar mount comes with clamps for 12-millimetre tubes as standard. The possible combination with optional mounting adapters or the RAM ball joint system results in countless variants for individual positioning.

  4. Touratech Suspension EVO for Yamaha Ténéré 700

    Posted on

The EVO series from Touratech Suspension boasts a completely new shock absorber. The Yamaha Ténéré 700 now also benefits from the numerous technical innovations of these premium shock absorbers.

With its no-frills concept, powerful engine and long spring travel, the Ténéré 700 has been wowing the adventure community since its release in 2019. It goes without saying that Touratech has developed an extensive range of accessories around this powerful package. Right from the start, the developers paid special attention to the suspension system. Although well-equipped at the factory to meet a wide range of demands, the standard suspension elements of the T7 quickly reach their limits under tough conditions with higher payloads.

The suspension elements from Touratech Suspension have been an effective remedy for years. With a special setup for extreme loads, equipped with extensive adjustment options and yet fully serviceable, the proven suspension elements of the Touratech Suspension Travel range already raised the off-road and touring capabilities of the T7 to a new level.

EVO suspension elements with completely new damper technology

And now Touratech Suspension has topped it once again. Following the semi-active suspension system for the BMW R 1250 GS, a completely new, EVO generation damper technology is now to be used in the conventional suspension systems as well. The Yamaha Ténéré 700 is first in line.

The focus on top performance under extreme conditions has left its stamp on the technology of the EVO dampers. For example, the completely new design of the damper piston has resulted in optimised flow behaviour, preventing the formation oil foam even at the highest frequencies, such as when riding along trails at high speeds. This means that the damping behaviour remains completely consistent over a huge load spectrum. The new low-friction seal on the damper rod is also designed to withstand the highest stresses. In addition, its low coefficient of friction ensures an exceptionally low breakaway torque, contributing to its sensitive response behaviour. Annoying jerking, also known as slip-stick effect, is alien to EVO dampers.

Easy tuning of spring preload and damping

EVO suspension elements have a particularly robust spring preload adjuster for situational adjustment of the spring preload to the respective load condition. Rapid compression of the spring is achieved at comparatively low operating pressure already, which puts less strain on the seals. This is also a big plus in terms of durability. The high-quality spring itself is manufactured by Eibach, a leading global supplier of performance suspension systems.

For the new EVO line, pre-setting of the compression damping is simple and intuitive via a single rotary knob with an easy-to-read scale. This also enables less experienced users to reliably implement individual suspension system setups. Rebound damping is similarly easy to adjust over a wide range.

  5. Touratech Destino Touring GTX

    Posted on

The brand new Destino Touring GTX is specifically tailored to meet the demands of touring. This motorcycle boot, equipped with a high-quality Gore-Tex membrane, combines functionality with maximum comfort.

Relentless rain on motorways, heat in cities, frosty temperatures at the end of the season – tour riders with a passion for being on the road are exposed to a wide range of weather conditions throughout the year. Versatility is therefore key when it comes to footwear for frequent riders with high expectations. And then there's a whole bunch of other factors. A good touring boot must be dependable. It should never become an instrument of torture during a longer sightseeing tour on foot and it must still be a companion with whom it is a pleasure to be seen, even after many years of unremitting use.

    Bundled technologies for maximum comfort

Touratech's answer to this complex catalogue of requirements is: Destino Touring GTX. This new touring boot relies on the Gore-Tex Performance Comfort membrane. This high-tech solution keeps feet dry even during prolonged precipitation and features particularly efficient breathability at the same time. Even at high outside temperatures, the microporous membrane ensures reliable water vapour transport to the outside.

Anatomically shaped Ortholite insoles form a comfortable footbed and support the feel-good climate in the boot through their breathability.

If a longer walk is on the agenda, the Destino Touring GTX will delight you with its grippy outsole made of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA). This is characterised by outstanding damping values and excellent foot rolling comfort. A further feature geared toward providing maximum wearing comfort is the accordion stretch insert, which ensures that the Destino Touring GTX fits comfortably.

Protection functions at the highest level

Along with all the comfort, a motorcycle boot must also be safe. And the Destino Touring GTX makes no concessions in this respect either. A polypropylene midsole with integrated reinforcement protects the foot from twisting. Heel and ankle shells not only provide support but also, in combination with the robust toe cap, protect the foot from external impact. The Touring GTX impressively demonstrated its high level of protection during the certification process in accordance with the EN 13634-2017 Level 2 | 1 | 2 | 2 standard.

Detailed solutions from practical experience for practical use

Numerous thoughtful details such as the integrated gear shift pad, the reflective inserts in the heel area, the generous zip cover and the loop with which this boot can be easily pulled on underline the Destino Touring GTX's high suitability for everyday use.

The Destino Touring GTX was developed in cooperation with REV'IT!, the world-renowned manufacturer of premium rider equipment. Extensive experience gained with the high-end Destino Ultimate GTX boot has also been incorporated into the concept of the Touring GTX.

In addition to top ratings for comfort and protection, the Touring GTX also looks strikingly good with its innovative material mix of leather, Hypalon and rubber highlighted by the yellow accents. Top quality and cool look Made in Europe.

The Destino Touring GTX is available in ten sizes from 39 to 48. Item no.: 500-3639 ff., Price: €319.90.
