It’s that time of year when automotive industry charity, Ben, launches its annual Health & Wellbeing survey, to gain insights into the health and wellbeing needs of automotive people - for now and in the future.
Ben would like as many people as possible who work, or have worked, in the automotive industry to share their health and wellbeing experiences. The charity wants to hear what health and wellbeing issues have affected automotive people and their families over the past year and what they think their challenges might be in the future. The survey is confidential, takes under 10 minutes and each participant has the chance to win a £500 Amazon voucher.
Help Ben to help you & win £500 - take the survey now! Take part: click here.
Ben uses the survey results to guide future support and service development for automotive individuals who are struggling or in crisis. The results from Ben’s Health & Wellbeing survey are also shared annually in a report to help automotive industry employers better support the health and wellbeing of their workforce.
Last year’s survey indicated that:
- 99.6% of automotive workers were personally affected by a health and wellbeing issue
- Stress was the most common issue (56%), followed by poor sleep (51%) and feelings of anxiety (43%)
- 7 in 10 automotive workers were worried about money - up from 6 in 10 year on year
- 1 in 7 (14%) automotive people are considering leaving the industry - and 63% of those considering leaving the industry were experiencing stress at work.
Rachel Clift, Ben’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “It’s that time of year again when we need to hear from our automotive family! We want to hear from as many people as possible who work, or have worked, in our industry. Tell us about the health and wellbeing challenges you’ve faced over the past 12 months and what you think you might need in the future so we can provide the very best support and services, as your charity. The insights we gain from our annual surveys are vital in so many ways.
“As well as providing support for life for industry-connected individuals and their families, our mission is to help automotive employers build a motivated and resilient workforce. So if you’re automotive industry-connected, please help us to help you and take the survey now! It’ll only take 10 minutes of your time and will help us do even more to support you and the health and wellbeing of our automotive family as a whole.”

"With a significantly extended range of standard equipment, fully adjustable upside-down forks, lighter wheels and a weight saving of 3 kilograms, we have been able to make the BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR even more attractive. The new F 900 R also benefits from a sportier riding position and the F 900 XR from optimised aerodynamics."
Anton Huber, Project Manager
The new BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR: Technical and visual upgrades and significantly extended standard equipment for the dynamic roadster and long-distance sports bike in the mid-range segment.
With the new BMW F 900 R dynamic roadster and the new F 900 XR crossover bike, BMW Motorrad is taking its popular mid- range product range to a new level. Both F-models are designed for sportiness and fun in twisty terrain, with even more agile handling and are suitable for experienced riders as well as newcomers and those returning to motorcycling. While the new F 900 R as a Dynamic Roadster focuses primarily on sporty riding pleasure, the F 900 XR has everything it takes to be a confident partner on longer tours and holiday trips with luggage.
Powerful two-cylinder in-line engine with Euro 5+ homologation. Dynamic riding mode with sportier set-up, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and engine drag torque control now standard. New sports silencer in collaboration with AkrapovicÌ as genuine BMW Motorrad accessories.
In the new BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR, the tried-and-tested two- cylinder in-line engine with 895 cc capacity and 77 kW (105 bhp) of power output ensures pleasurable riding dynamics. It also delivers a full-bodied torque curve in the current Euro 5+ homologation. With the newly tuned standard "Dynamic" driving mode, the two new F models offer even more riding pleasure and dynamics at a sporty pace. Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) is fitted as standard to ensure the best possible safety during acceleration. The engine drag torque control is also standard. It prevents rear wheel spin or skidding caused by abrupt throttle release or downshifting, for an even higher level of safety.
The sound of the two-cylinder engine, which already has a powerful character due to the 270/450 degree firing interval, is made even throatier by the new sports silencer available as a genuine BMW Motorrad accessory in cooperation with AkrapovicÌ, which also offers a weight saving of approximately 1.2 kg.
New upside-down telescopic forks with adjustable damping rebound and compression damping and spring preload. New wheels, approx. 1.8 kg lighter. BMW Motorrad ABS Pro and Dynamic Brake Control DBC as standard - for even more safety when braking.
On both the new BMW F 900 R and the new BMW F 900 XR, the front wheel is guided by new, torsionally rigid, upside-down telescopic forks with 43 mm slider tube diameter. Both rebound and compression damping as well as spring preload are now adjustable. This makes it possible to tailor the forks to suit individual requirements.
The new BMW F 900 R and F 900 XR also feature new 17-inch cast aluminium wheels. They weigh around 1.8 kg less than the previous models, contributing to a total weight reduction of 3 kg.
Another new standard feature on the new F models is BMW Motorrad ABS Pro. In contrast to BMW Motorrad ABS, ABS Pro goes one step further and offers even more safety when braking in bends by enabling ABS-assisted braking at lean angles.
Another new standard safety feature is Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), which provides even greater safety when braking in difficult situations by preventing unintentional acceleration.
New, 0.8 kg lighter battery as standard and function-integrated turn indicator lights in the new rear end. BMW F 900 XR with Headlight Pro including daytime running light, adaptive headlight, USB-C charging port and heated grips as standard. The two new F Series models are equipped with a new battery that is 0.8 kg lighter. They also have a new rear end with function- integrated turn indicator lights (brake and tail light functions are integrated into the turn indicator lights).
The new BMW F 900 XR comes with Headlight Pro as standard, including daytime running light and adaptive headlight for even greater safety when riding at night. Other new standard features of the F 900 XR include the USB-C charging port on the right-hand side of the cockpit with a maximum charging current of 2.4 A and the heated grips.
BMW F 900 R with optimised ergonomics thanks to a redefined position of the handlebars and footrests for a more sporty riding position. New headlight side trim painted in body colour.
The handlebars, footrests and foot levers of the ergonomic triangle between the handlebars, seat and footrests of the new BMW
F 900 R have been redesigned. This has made it possible to create a riding position that is significantly more sporty and closer to the front wheel.
The new F 900 R's increased sporting ambitions are emphasised by the headlamp side trim painted in body colour.
BMW F 900 XR with optimised aerodynamics and hand protectors as standard. The new BMW F 900 XR offers even more touring capability and long-distance comfort thanks to optimised aerodynamics in the front fairing. The redesigned wind deflector reduces wind pressure on the rider, resulting in significantly less helmet vibration and even greater riding comfort. The hand protectors, which are standard for all equipment variants, also provides improved protection from the wind and weather.
Equipment variants and colours.
The new BMW F 900 R is available in three attractive colours. The basic variant is available in Snapper Rocks Blue metallic, the Triple Black version in Blackstorm metallic and the version Sport in Lightwhite with Racingblue metallic.
The new BMW F 900 XR will also be available in three variants and colours for the coming motorcycle season. The basic variant is available in Racing Red, the Triple Black version in Blackstorm metallic and the version Sport in Lightwhite with Racingblue metallic.

Cannabis has become a topic of interest in many subcultures, including biker life. From using CBD for pain relief after long rides to its role in social biker gatherings, understanding the legalities and safety measures is essential. This article explores how cannabis fits into the biker lifestyle, focusing on legal use, responsible consumption, and how it can sometimes enhance the riding experience without compromising safety.
Legal Cannabis Options for Bikers
The legality of cannabis varies widely, but in the UK, products such as CBD are permitted under strict guidelines. Bikers looking to incorporate cannabis into their lifestyle should be aware of these legal distinctions to avoid legal troubles.
Cannabis Products Legally Available to Bikers:
-
CBD oils and tinctures: Ideal for post-ride muscle recovery and relaxation, provided they contain less than 0.2% THC.
-
CBD-infused edibles and drinks: Non-psychoactive options for casual use.
-
Medicinal cannabis: Available by prescription for specific conditions, such as chronic pain or anxiety.
Understanding these categories ensures compliance with the law and a safer riding experience.
Legal Framework: Cannabis and Biking in the UK
The UK's Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 strictly regulates cannabis, classifying it as a Class B drug. Recreational use and possession are illegal, but exceptions exist for CBD products and medicinal cannabis. Bikers must adhere to these rules to stay safe on and off the road.
Key Legal Guidelines for Bikers Using Cannabis:
Legal

CBD products with less than 0.2% THC
|
Recreational cannabis with THC >0.2%
|
Medicinal cannabis by prescription
|
Riding under the influence of cannabis
|
Cannabis-derived cosmetics and balms
|

|
Staying informed about these distinctions ensures bikers remain within legal boundaries.
The Role of Cannabis in Biker Culture
Cannabis has a complex relationship with biker culture, often seen as a way to unwind after long rides or a means of connecting socially within the community. For those interested in exploring legal options, you can buy weed in London through trusted retailers offering CBD products and medicinal cannabis.
Popular Uses Among Bikers:
-
Post-Ride Recovery: CBD balms and oils help soothe sore muscles after hours of riding.
-
Social Bonding: CBD-infused edibles or drinks are popular in biker meetups, providing relaxation without intoxication.
-
Managing Stress: Medicinal cannabis is sometimes used by bikers dealing with anxiety or chronic conditions.
While cannabis can complement the biker lifestyle, responsible use is critical to ensure safety on the road.
How Cannabis Affects Riding: The Importance of Responsibility
Cannabis, particularly products containing THC, can impair motor skills and reaction times, making riding extremely dangerous. Bikers must be aware of how cannabis affects their performance and prioritize safety.
Tips for Responsible Cannabis Use:
-
Avoid THC Before Riding: THC impairs judgment and coordination, which are crucial for safe riding.
-
Use CBD for Recovery: CBD products can help with muscle relaxation and pain relief without affecting motor skills.
-
Wait Before Riding: If using medicinal cannabis, ensure it’s out of your system before getting on your bike.
-
Know Your Limits: Understand how your body reacts to cannabis and avoid risky behavior.
By prioritizing responsible use, bikers can enjoy the benefits of cannabis without compromising safety.
Where to Buy Legal Cannabis Products for Bikers
Knowing where to find legal cannabis products ensures bikers access safe, high-quality options.
Trusted Shops for Biker-Friendly Cannabis Products:
Holland & Barrett: Mainstream retailer providing reliable CBD capsules and balms.
Online Retailers:
Online platforms like CBD Brothers offer convenience and verified product quality, making them a popular choice for bikers.
Cannabis in Biker Life: A Balanced Approach
Incorporating cannabis into biker life requires a balanced approach. By focusing on legal, non-intoxicating options such as CBD and using products responsibly, bikers can enhance their lifestyle without jeopardizing safety. Whether you're recovering from a long ride or bonding with fellow riders, cannabis can play a role in the biker experience - but always ensure it’s legal and safe.

Automotive industry charity, Ben, is launching its ‘Christmas families project’ for another year, supporting families who might otherwise have to make impossible choices about heating or eating and whether they can afford Christmas gifts. Now in its fifth year, Ben’s Christmas families project keeps roofs over heads, lights on, food on tables, as well as putting gifts under trees for those feeling cost-of-living pressures.
The project started in December 2020 in response to the Covid pandemic when many more automotive families were struggling to afford the basics at a more expensive time of year. Since then, with Ben’s support, hundreds of automotive families have been able to pay their basic living costs, give Christmas gifts to their children and have a festive lunch together.
Ben supports thousands of automotive people each year. Over the past four years, almost 700 adults and children have benefitted from Ben’s Christmas families project. Since 2020, Ben has seen these figures grow by 208%.
Last year, Ben supported 265 automotive families through the project, including 120 children. It’s expected that the charity will help even more people this year. Here are some quotes from families that Ben supported in 2023:
“Thank you so much for the food vouchers, it will make a huge difference to our Christmas. It's been a really hard year, but this will lift the whole family, we have some treats to make it more special.”
“Thank you so much for the Christmas support. The food vouchers will make an amazing difference. It's been a long road this year and Christmas seemed impossible to reach but we got here with some great help. Although we’ve had lows, Ben has given us some highs. Now we’ll have a great Christmas day with treats, dinner and the kids will have some lovely presents.”
“I'm so overwhelmed by Ben’s kindness that I just burst out crying. You've made us so happy in what's been a rough time. I can't thank you and everyone at Ben enough for what you've done.”
To anyone in the industry who is struggling with cost-of-living pressures or finds themselves in crisis, please reach out to Ben, your automotive industry charity. Ben is here to help.
Rachel Clift, Chief Executive Officer at Ben, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have helped hundreds of automotive people through our Christmas families project over the past four years. Of course, Ben’s not just for Christmas - we’re here for automotive people all year round and we help thousands of families each year. At a more expensive time of year, we want to make sure no automotive family goes without the opportunity to have a Christmas meal together and a gift for their children.
“We recognise that times are still really tough for many. No-one in our automotive family should face homelessness or have to make impossible decisions about whether they can afford to put food on the table or heat their homes. We’re here for those struggling or in crisis. We provide life-changing and, often life-saving, support to many families and individuals who can’t afford the basics and we urge people to contact our helpline. We want everyone in the automotive industry to know that Ben is here for them. Please don’t struggle alone, get in touch today.”
Ben is here for automotive industry people this Christmas so if you work, or have worked, in the automotive industry we urge you to get in touch now if you’re at breaking point via our free and confidential helpline.
