  1. DOUBLE PODIUM FOR MARQUEZ AT MOTEGI

    Posted on

Another racing weekend draws to a close, another one with a comeback performance by Marc Marquez. Also in Japan, the #93, who had a tough luck due to a delayed, lap-cancelling decision in qualifying, did a great job in bouncing back both in the sprint and in today’s full race, as he bagged another third-place finish and consolidating his chances for a top three final position.

It was a Sunday to forget for Alex Marquez, who was out of contention before the end of the opening lap following a coming together with a rival. A few scratches and, above all, a long-lap penalty to perform are the negative takeaways from the 16th event of the season.

3rd MARC MARQUEZ (4th in the championship standings with 311 points)
“I did a good start, but Martin and Miller had an even better one. Generally speaking, it was a good opening lap and a kind of… boring race. With the lack of overtakes, I had to stay focused and also made a mistake that could have cost me the podium. It went well, though, now it’s time to take a little rest and recharge for the next tripleheader.”

DNF – ALEX MARQUEZ (12th in the championship standings with 124 points)
“I made a mistake at turn 11 that sent me off line and while trying to get back to my position I had a coming together with Mir, which led to the crash. Our bikes tangled together and I apologised to him for what happened. Now we need to recover ahead of Australia. We’ll have to perform a long-lap penalty, even though I disagree with it: seven days ago, at turn 3 another rider hit me the same way and nothing happened. This shows that rules don’t apply the same way to everybody, but it is what it is. We’ll make the most of this lesson.”

  2. A SUNDAY TO FORGET FOR TEAM GRESINI RACING MOTOGP

A crash triggered by another rider and a mechanical problem have ruled Alex and Marc Marquez out of contention in the fifteenth race of the season at Lombok’s Mandalika Race Circuit. Alex’s race lasted only a few corners, while Marc was forced to an early retirement at halfway distance, while running in seventh position behind Bagnaia.

There is not much else to add. The Japanese Grand Prix will get underway this Friday, with the goal of turning things around.

DNF MARC MARQUEZ #93 (4th in the championship standings with 288 points)
“The engine broke during what was my fastest lap of the race. I was trying to improve my pace, but it ended up this way. These things happen and it’s nobody’s fault: the team did an outstanding job this weekend; we win and lose together. We’ll try again in Japan.”

DNF ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (11th in the championship standings 121 points)
“Somebody hit me, I think it was Jack (Miller)… these things happened, but it’s still a pity. We lost points in the championship standings and missed an opportunity to make amends following the recent crashes. Not much else to say… we’ll try to find some fresh confidence in a few days’ time at Motegi.”

  3. MARC OUTDOES HIMSELF IN MANDALIKA SPRINT RACE

    Posted on

A dream start and comeback, the latest by the Marc Marquez – Team Gresini MotoGP combo. A special mention goes to the team that has done a top job (as always) to put the eight-time world champion in the best possible condition to perform in the #IndonesianGP sprint race. The rest is history: wonderful start and great awareness in ‘settling’ for third.

Alex Marquez had a solid race after another challenging Saturday that was heavily affected by his Q1 crash. The #73 was fourteenth at the line as he gathered valuable information for tomorrow’s race, with points as the goal.

    3rd - MARC MARQUEZ #93
“Honestly speaking, I’m not happy. I made another mistake in qualifying and we were able to save the day today… This podium made us forget our morning a little, but the mistake is still there. Tomorrow I’ll be a whole different story and if to finish fifth/sixth would already be an important result.”

    14th -ALEX MARQUEZ #73
“It was a complicated Saturday due to the crash and unfortunately my physical condition is not ideal. We need to recover and try to do our best tomorrow.”

  4. MARC SEEDED TO Q2, A CRASH FOR ALEX IN KEY MOMENT

    Posted on

The opening day of action at Mandalika has drawn to a close with both riders of Team Gresini MotoGP on competitive form on Indonesian turf. Alex Marquez had an unfortunate end to the Practice session as he crashed out of turn 12 during his time attack and with few minutes left. The crash happened when the #73 was on course to a time only 3 tenths slower than the provisional pole. Tomorrow, it’ll be another story.

It was a whole different day for Marc Marquez, again in Q2 with the seventh quickest time, but not without risks (especially at turn 10). The eight-time world champion will spearhead his attack on the front row from 11:15 local time (GMT +8).

    7th - MARC MARQUEZ #93 (1’29.855s)
“Today wasn’t the perfect day: we struggled at the beginning, especially in the morning. We found a decent direction in the afternoon and I felt more comfortable. I’m having a difficult time in a specific part of the track and once again we’re not as fast as we should be with fresh tyres. There’s work to be done.”
    21st -ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (1’30.998)
“I made a mistake at Misano in a key moment and today the same happened. We’ll need to make an effort and make it into Q2 tomorrow. Today’s lap may have been enough, but we’ll never know… We’re aware that we can be fast and tomorrow we can – and we must – do well.”

  5. IT’S AGAIN A GRESINI PODIUM IN MISANO

    Posted on

Marc Marquez has once again been among the protagonists in what was the final European race of the season before the long, extra European MotoGP journey begins – with one final return to European turf at Valencia in November for the season finale. This was a very important result as the after a not-as-brilliant start (compared to yesterday’s sprint race at least), the #93 was already in fifth place at the end of lap one. Making the most of the crashes first by Acosta and then by Bagnaia, Marc bags 16 crucial points that keep him in the higher part of the standings, albeit in fourth place.

Alex Marquez put together a great comeback from the very back of the grid as he finished ninth. His start was not the best, but then a proud performance came in a weekend where everything seemed to be going the wrong way. With some valuable points in the bag, he gets fresh motivation ahead of the upcoming races in Indonesia and Japan.

3rd - MARC MARQUEZ #93 (4th in the championship standings with 281 points)
“Let’s enjoy this podium, even though our pace was worthy of a fourth-place finish today. I could have taken more risks and then finish fourth with a three-second gap or manage my pace and finish fourth with 8 seconds… Pecco’s crash surely helped us, we are bagging 16 valuable points and look forward to Indonesia.”

9th - ALEX MARQUEZ #73 (9th in the championship standings with 121 points)
“This was likely my worst race start of the year and despite that we scored a good result in what was a tough race. We suffered from the extra grip here and now it’s time for Indonesia, a race that I missed out last year due to injury and where conditions will be very different.”
