  2. BBC Looking For Original Rockers‏

    Posted on

ARE YOU AN ORIGINAL ROCKER?   CAN YOU REMEMBER 1964?

A BBC documentary team is looking for motorcyclists who were in Clacton, Margate, Brighton or Hastings during the famous bank holiday Mods and Rockers clashes of 1964.

The emphasis will be on what really happened rather than what we read in the national press. If you were there, we want you to tell us what really happened, from your point of view.  Was it just a big fuss about nothing, cooked up by the media? Were you arrested – fairly or unfairly? Was it really a war between two tribes or just a few skirmishes blown up out of all proportion? How do you feel today about having been a part of it all?

If you were there and have a story to tell, please contact Matthew Wheeler. [email protected]

They will be interviewing at Ace Cafe London later in June.

MARGATE MELTDOWN  Bank Holiday Monday 26th May

    Depart Ace Cafe: 10.30am
    Route: A406 - A13 - M25 - A2 - M2 - A299 to Margate seafront

The 7th annual Margate Meltdown is the most recently established of Ace Cafe London's free to attend major ride outs.

The ride out from the cafe to this popular seaside resort in Kent has been held each year on occasion of the annual Spring Bank Holiday. Margate seafront and harbour is given over to motorcycles and scooters, diverse club and trade stands, a stage with live entertainment from Noon,
featuring on the Ace stage the semi-acoustic sounds of The Elbeats, together with rockin' DJ's Bill & George Guntrip.

Working closely with the cafe's chosen charity for this event, The Royal British Legion Riders Branch (RBLRB), the town and Thanet District Council, Margate not only has everything that a great ride out requires, but also a great beach and plenty of heritage to include a legacy from the 1960s that is of world renown relating to motorbikes, scooters and the Mods & Rockers that rode them!

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the infamous Mods & Rockers clashes of 1964!
